Evans Food Products Company, Inc. of Chicago, Illinois, prides themselves in manufacturing quality products in a quality facility. Being the largest manufacturer of Pork Rinds in the world, Evans Food must meet rigid USDA standards relative to facility operations and maintenance. As is the case with many food processing facilities, the pork processing environment presents aggressive operating conditions but must be maintained and kept clean to avoid health related issues. Floors are constantly exposed to hot oils, fats, natural acids, cleaning detergents, steam cleaning and disinfecting chemicals.

Mike Panitto, Vice President and General Manager of the facility, had experienced some problems in the past with 1/4" epoxy floors cracking and delimitating due to thermal cycling. He wanted the floor to be easily maintained and have moderate skid resistance. Mike asked General Polymers to review the operating and cleaning conditions then make a recommendation for his floor. Primary concern was installing a new flooring system without significantly disrupting the manufacturing process. The short time of shut down, avoiding odors and the damp environment were important criteria in selecting FasTop M Urethane Mortar System as the best alternative. FasTop M flooring system is a 3/8" troweled urethane modified cementitious system that can be installed within an eight-hour window at room temperature or can accommodate cool damp installation conditions. It is acceptable for use in USDA facilities, withstands steam cleaning or freezing conditions (-50° F), presents a slip resistant finish and has excellent chemical resistance to food chemicals, oils and cleaners. The low odor of the product does not present any problems for employees or the food process.

Artlow Systems from Addison, IL was the General Polymers flooring certified installer for the FasTop M system at Evans Food. The installation process required expert installation skill and attention to detail due to the rapid cure of the product. Today, Mike Panitto is completely satisfied with is new floor and can now devote his full attention to the production of Pork Rinds and Cracklins.
